Book: Pulp Author: Charles Bukowski Synopsis: Hopeless in relationships, career, and alcohol management, Nicky Belane is a Hollywood private detective who attracts unusual and out-of-this-world related cases. Bumbling through the cases (and being expelled from most Hollywood bars) he finally learns what the Red Sparrow is. Review: Belane is like one of those guys you hated at school; the type that did no work, but still managed to pull in the good grades. Bastards. In spite of his efforts he seems to crack the cases, or at least tie some of the loose ends together to reach some kind of conclusion and manage his clients. Bukowski’s writing style is curt and direct which matches Belane’s demeanour. The sci-fi element to the book didn’t do anything for me. But it was a good read which I would recommend, Baby. |
